The Band is Seeking a Music Director/Conductor Beginning September 2026

The West Suburban Concert Band is seeking a Music Director/Conductor beginning September, 2026. This position includes a stipend as compensation.
WSCB is a not-for-profit community band based out of La Grange. Membership is open to all musicians age 18 and up with no required auditions. During the year the band performs an average of eight indoor and outdoor concerts. Two of the concerts are formal indoor concerts. One concert is in the spring and the other is a holiday concert in December. Both concerts are at Gurrie Middle School. The remaining concerts vary but usually include an evening concert in La Grange Park, Armed Forces Day Ceremony in Burr Ridge, and the Memorial Day Ceremony in Western Springs.
Weekly rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at Gurrie Middle School in LaGrange from 7:30 to 9:15pm starting in mid September and ending in May. Outdoor rehearsals may take place in June in Western Springs from 6:30 to 8:15pm depending on the adirector’s discretion.
Responsibilities
The Musical Director shall conduct and rehearse the band with selections of his/her choice, having complete authority in these matters.
Advise the Board as to the acceptance and scheduling of all public performances and rehearsals.
Carry out additional tasks as they arise.
Qualifications
College degree in Music Education and/or conducting.
Experience conducting a Community Band or a School Band at the High School or Collegiate Level is preferred but not required..
Strong conducting skills.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication abilities.
Ability to work well with adult musicians.
